Recent quilts

This body of work began in the autumn of 2018 and is ongoing. It uses the same process of filler and paint on crumpled aluminium stitched together with wire but sees a marked departure in terms of its imagery.

This work dispenses with the simple grid of coloured squares of previous quilts and shows the influence of elaborate Rococo decoration, medieval heraldic motifs and religious architecture

Developing simultaneously in this work is a reference to macular degeneration. This is a condition where sight is lost from the central field of vision, but the peripheral vision remains relatively intact. This has led to a series of works in which all detail is concentrated along the edges and corners of the pieces
